cinnamon marble scones.

I've been experimenting with scone recipes lately, and this is by far my favorite! They are just so scrumptious!

Ingredients:

dough:
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 TBSP baking powder
3/4 cup cold butter, cubed
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla

Cinnamon marble filling:
5 TBSP butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 TBSP ground cinnamon

Cinnamon glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 TBSP water
2 TBSP butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425*.

In a stand mixer, combine flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Add cubed butter and let it mix on the slowest setting for a few minutes until large crumbs form.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine egg, milk, and vanilla. Slowly mix the wet ingredients into the dry until a soft dough forms. Place in refrigerator while preparing the marble filling.

Mix together butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Then turn out your scone mixture on a floured surface. Roll out until thin, about 1/4-1/2 inch. Spread your filling mixture over the dough. Then fold the dough over onto itself. At first, I tried to do a perfect fold so the mixture was just in the middle, but it just wasn't doing it. So I just kept folding until the cinnamon was no longer on top but layers throughout, and I think it's prettier that way! I did try to keep it in a square/rectangle and about 1/2-3/4inch thick so that cutting my triangles would be easier.

Then using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into triangles. I usually make almost 2 dozen small triangles because the will grow while baking. Place on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and bake for 10-12 minutes.

While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze. Melt the butter in a bowl and mix in powdered sugar, water, vanilla, and cinnamon. When the scones are golden, take out of the oven and brush with the glaze.

Enjoy with a fresh brewed cup of coffee!
